Hours & Compensation

Approx. 10 hours per week; $12,500 annually; 7.65% FICA Contribution (Social Security and Medicare)

Supervision & Relationship

Reports to the Andover Community Lead Pastor, secondarily to the Andover Leadership Team. Works collaboratively with church staff, the Children/Youth Leadership Team, and volunteers to support the faith formation of children and families.

Position Summary

The Children’s Minister oversees faith formation ministries for children from birth through 5th grade. This role provides leadership for Sunday morning children’s programming, including Sunday School (1 hr programming), nursery coordination, and Kids’ Worship (20 minutes during Sunday morning worship time). The Children’s Minister resources and supports volunteers; to ensure appropriate curriculum, supplies, and safe, welcoming environments; and collaborates with the Lead Pastor and Children/Youth Leadership Team to plan and lead special events.

Through consistent communication with families, visible presence in worship, and relational engagement with children both on and off campus, this position nurtures faith development, belonging, and connection within the life of the church.

Qualifications

• A personal Christian faith and commitment to the mission of The United Methodist Church.
• Experience working with children in a church, school, camp, or community setting, or demonstrated readiness for children’s ministry leadership.
• Ability to work collaboratively with pastoral staff, ministry teams, and volunteers in a connectional, team-based environment.
• Basic organizational and time-management skills appropriate for a part-time role.
• Strong communication skills with children, parents/caregivers, volunteers, and staff.
• Willingness to complete Safe Sanctuaries training and follow all child-safety policies.
• Availability to work Sunday mornings and occasional special events.

Responsibilities

Mission & Administration

• Support the mission of the church to make disciples of Jesus Christ through excellence in administration, organization, and communication.
• Meet regularly with the Campus/Lead Pastor for reflection and planning.
• Provide updates to families via the Children’s Ministry weekly email.

Children’s Programming

• Coordinate Children’s Sunday School, including curriculum, supplies, and volunteer leadership.
• Recruit, train, and support volunteers as needed.

Sunday Morning Worship:

• Prepare and organize children’s worship bags and children’s bulletins.
• Coordinate Kids’ Worship (the 20-minute segment during the worship service).
• Prepare and resource weekly leaders and serve on the rotation as needed.

Nursery Oversight:

• Oversee nursery volunteers, scheduling, cleanliness, and supplies.

Special Children’s Events:

• Help with coordination and support for events including:
  • Vacation Bible School (VBS)
  • Jingle Jam (Christmas event)
  • Harvest Hangout (Fall Festival)
  • Easter Egg Hunt
• Coordinate children’s participation in special worship moments such as Palm Sunday and the Christmas program.

Safety & Training

• Coordinate with the Pastor to ensure Safe Sanctuaries training for volunteers.
• Help relaunch and support Andover Buddies, a mentoring program pairing congregational members with children.
• Maintain regular presence in children’s lives through occasional off-campus events and activities.
• Serve as a visible part of the broader worship life of the church as needed.
